Artificial grass problem

Now my Dad has died I am looking after Mums 2 gardens. I am a novice gardener. The front garden has artificial grass. The back garden has natural grass.

Can anybody tell me what is coming through the artificial grass and what I need to buy to get rid of it?

Your best bet is just rip it up and lay some turf.

Looks like a type of moss to me. It does grow in artificial grass when it’s damp, the spores are airborne and multiply in damp areas. I have something similar growing in my natural grass lawn.

It might not be deeply rooted so easy to yank up if not too much but otherwise a guess a generic moss killer will get rid of it. But you will still need to brush or rake away the dead moss.

In reality, an artificial lawn needs a lot more looking after than a natural one, constant brushing to get rid of weed seedlings and even washing if it looks muddy! At least with real grass the moss looks more natural and does not stand out as much - I actually like the moss in my lawn, it reduces the need to mow as it inhibits grass growth, is soft to walk on and stays green in a heat wave!

There are gardeners who are specialists at looking after artificial lawns.

Yep, nightmare artificial lawn. That’s moss. You can kill it but it will just turn brown and still be in there. You need to jet wash it really. And then keep it brushed and blow it regularly. Just a pain.
