Remembrance plant

Hi all,

Posting on behalf of a friend.

She had two miscarriages close together so the babies would have been born late summer, early autumn.

Does anyone have any suggestions on plants that could fit in planters (in case they move) and are fragrant during that time period?

Thanks

Roses are always special.

Glitchymn1 · 26/02/2025 20:43

I’m so sorry.
How about a Daphne? Mine seems to pretty much flower most of the year.

Rosemary is traditionally the herb of remembrance and as an evergreen it will not die off in Autumn / Winter. It is also very hardy so will grow easily (a pot of perfect otherwise it can take over) and smells beautiful too.

Is perfect not of perfect ,,

@Lovelyview could you recommend any in particular?
@Glitchymn1 do they need a particular soil?
@NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy could it grow in a pot with something else?

I'm not an expert but something like this might be nice. Search for patio roses. Roses do lose their leaves in winter so they will be boring until spring. I quite like the excitement of the new leaves coming out but your friend may prefer an evergreen.

@Livinginacatdictatorship I had to google, it says a light and well draining soil, I just used compost. Dappled shade. It’s flowering right now, it’s quite protected from the wind and the frost and snow didn’t bother it either.
I also like the flamingo trees, but that might be a bit too much.
The roses a pp suggested are lovely, maybe with some evergreens if that’s possible.

I don't think so because it does like to take over, but I am honestly no expert!

There is a Harkness rose for remembrance called 'At Peace'. White/cream, fragrant blooms and repeat flowers from June until first frosts. It also comes in apricot and pale yellow versions.

@brambleberries that looks nice, I will suggest this as well, the name is comforting too.
