What would you do with this space?

Hi 😊

We’ve recently bought a house which has some space between the garage and fence and have no idea what to do with it.

There are already other spaces for a shed and bin storage. We can fit a car in there (just) but there’s enough space on the driveway anyway.

The garage door faces toward south so it does get some sunlight, but can be a bit shaded by the walls around it and cars when they’re parked.

We still need to be able to walk through it as the walkway to the bins / back door runs behind the garage.

Any ideas? What would you do with the space?

Nothing 🤷🏻‍♀️ leave it as it is.

A sheltered spot also getting sun would be good for a wildflower lawn.

It depends if you want to leave it paved or not. That might also depend on what's under the paving, whether it'd be easy to get down to soil or not.

I'd probably gradually fill it with all sorts of pots.

Wildflower lawns need full sun all day, that space wouldn't be any use for them.

I'd put a fence & gate across the front, and have a small greenhouse there, with a water butt etc. But then I really want a greenhouse, and you probably don't.

Yeah I think I am leaning towards some planters / big pots to grow some wildflowers and veg. We don’t have a front lawn/garden as it’s nearly all monoblock driveway so it definitely needs some greenery

I'd put some lovely big terracotta pots there. I'd also consider some pots or a trough underneath the window.

Be warned, wildflowers won't grow well in pots (compost will be too fertile), but you could easily grow some lovely flowering annuals from seed (which would give a similar look).
