What shall I do with potted cyclamen?

They've been outside on the table since November and have flowered loads but the new stalks coming up look really flimsy and small and I'm wondering if it's coming to the end of flowering now?

What should I do with the pots? Put them somewhere out of the way? Plant them in the ground? Will the leaves all die back or will they stay looking green until they (hopefully) flower again next year?

Repot / plant in the ground somewhere out of direct sun. Mine come up year after year. Don't throw them away.

I bought a potted cyclamen in June 2020 and it has died and flowered repeatedly inside on my window sill for nearly 5 years. So you could do that! It's best in full light but not hot sun.

I wouldn't put it in your garden unless you want loads. I regret putting one in the garden. lol

You need to know what sort of cyclamen. Most sold in pots for flower display are varieties of Cyclamen persicum, and any red ones will be that. They’re not generally hardy in the UK, but can survive outside in, eg, central London.

Two hardy species are widely available, C. hederifolium (autumn flowering) and C. coum (spring flowering). They’re smaller plants, only a few inches high. Seeds spread by ants. I suspect @tothelefttotheleft has one of these, and in a soil light enough to harbour ants. I don’t think most gardeners find spreading cyclamen a problem.

Whichever species you have, it will lose its leaves, then grow fresh leaves. C. hederifolium flowers before it’s grown its new leaves.
