Where are my snowdrops?

In November I planted a load of snowdrop and crocus bulbs in our front lawn. There's no sign of any snowdrops but I've seen them growing in other people's gardens, I just wondered what I've done wrong :-(

Thinking about it, they aren't keen on alkaline clay.

I didn't know that, but I don't think that the problem is the soil as my next door neighbour successfully planted them in the green a few years ago.

Maybe I just have to accept that snowdrops aren't going to work for me

Snowdrops are finicky things. They grow like weeds in my garden and I have to thin them out every year. A friend who lives less than a mile away with the same soil cannot get them to grow even though he is a very experienced gardener.

I have transplanted many to grass verges etc, some do well and others disappear.

I have never planted dry bulbs, I have always split up clumps straight after flowering.

Order a load in the green. They'll take so much easier.

The ones I planted last year were in the green. It just seems I can't grow them.

I've decided to give up on snowdrops & am pinning my hopes on the fritillaries 😊

Mine came up fine this year. I have some planted under elder trees. I planted them in the green and this is their second year coming up in my garden. I’m hoping in time they naturalise across the area I’ve put them in.

I have covered 2 different lawns with crocus and snowdrops.

About 3 of the fuckers overall came up.

They grow well in soil though.

Gardeners question time on radio 4 talked about snowdrops recently.

They will grow where they want to grow not where you want them to! They like fertile soil and sun best. I’ve given up buying them, they don’t always grow even if you buy them in the green.
funny how they can be abundant on road side verges, and not want to be in my garden !

I’ve had a good display this year but did add lots more last year (planted in the green). I still have quite a few where the flowers haven’t yet opened too. I’m hoping they will and they’re not just blind. Do snowdrops come up blind like daffodils?
