dahlias in shed sprouting

Hi,
I raised my dahlias and put them in the shed to overwinter. Now I've noticed that they have started sprouting. New to growing them so not sure if they're roots or going to be stems - they look a bit like when potatoes sprout. So should I just leave them to do their thing until spring or should I pick them off?
Thanks

Very unlikely to be roots (dahlias grow from tubers in any event). I should leave them be. My Cannas have done the same and are growing away very happily in my unheated garage at the moment!

Don’t pick them off just yet. these are next years flower shoots. When the tubers get bigger you can decide then.,picking them off means you get larger individual blooms. Leaving them will mean more, smaller flowers per tuber.

The further South you live, dictates when to do the next stage. I’m in London, so in late march I put the tubers into trays of compost. About a week later I water them slightly. I keep them in the shed until tips are about an inch then plant them into pots. Bring them out late Mid to late April. In the North these will be delayed as late as May when frost has passed.

You're well ahead
These aren't next year's flower shoots, they are this years.. water occasionally.. I live in the mildest SE UK corner 10 minutes away from the sea, and they won't go outside until at least may..put them out too early, the slugs and snails have a field day.
