Mossy paths

Does pressure washing really remove moss? I don’t want to use any chemicals. It’s a solid concrete path rather than slabs. Very mossy and as I am disabled wet moss is like ice for my crutches so has it has to go.

Yes it does. As long as there’s no grout or sand between that could be blasted out

AndThereSheGoes · 19/01/2025 00:23

Yes and cleans off all the yuck leaving good as new paths.

Sounds like you may struggle to to manage it yourself. It's a very simple job if a little messy ( lots of spray back). I hired the pressure washer for £30 and did my patio and paths myself but even a teen could manage it. Wouldn't pay a professional unless they were doing something more involved like the roof or gutters as well.

Offer the moss on Freecycle and the like. As a moss collector I'm always happy to come and clear it away.

Or have someone move it to another area of your property. Moss gardens are a thing.

Yes it does, and ours doesn't remove the cement in-between the paving slabs. Out back garden faces NE, no sun in winter on that spot, the algae is like ice

Occasionally spraying the area with ordinary white vinegar will help prevent its return.

MereDintofPandiculation · 19/01/2025 13:59

Is it moss or algae? Algae - very thin green layer, like ice. Moss - more substance to it, not as slippery

Mittens67 · 19/01/2025 16:45

It is moss not algae. It is on an old solid concrete path in the shady bit of my garden next to a border full of plants so I am worried that any run off could kill stuff if chemicals were used. I would think vinegar might harm plants too?
Thanks all.

What harm does it do?

OP said it is slippy to walk on with crutches so seems a pretty good reason why she wants rid of it!

I see.
