Recommendations: low growing autumn colour

I have a small bank that is a nightmare to mow. Approx 1m high, 4m wide. I'd like to plant a shrub (or a few of the same type) to cover it. Low growing so I'm not battling with the size, able to out compete the grass and not need weeding/lots of maintenance. I'd love it to have autumn colour. Any ideas?

Cotoneaster 'coral beauty' maybe? Lovely berries in the autumn and a low-growing spreading habit.

There are quite a few varieties of sedum that are colourful in autumn, and quite hardy.

Boston Ivy? It's a spreader, and deciduous, but turns the most spectacular red in autumn.
Cyclamen is also nice...

Skimmia japonica is low-maintenance, quite low-growing, won't grow too fast and provides some pretty pink buds through autumn/winter.
Heuchera make good ground cover, come in a variety of colours and many have foliage year-round...
If you want something more dramatic (but that does need a little pruning once or twice a year to stop it getting too big) a drift of dogwoods with ghost brambles looks really amazing throughout autumn and winter. All those firey cornus stems with the white brambles showing through.

Skimmia japonica is low-maintenance, quite low-growing, won't grow too fast and provides some pretty pink buds through autumn/winter. var Reevesiana is self fertile and has long lasting red berries which more than make up for the smaller flower clusters.

Agree the Cornus/bramble combntion. Try Rubus cockbuniensis for the white stems, and Cornus “midwinter Fire” for yellow stems shading to red at the tips.
