Buddleia doesn’t know it’s autumn!

Is anyone else seeing unseasonal growth in their buddleia? We had almost no butterflies all summer, despite loads of flowers.

All the bushes have kept almost all their leaves, and two are now vigorously growing a whole new set beside the old ones, just as if it’s spring.

Is this normal? It’s been unusually warm and damp here. DH suggested cutting everything right back, but I feel I’d like to leave the greenest bushes to see what happens.

Anyone got any ideas what’s happening? Or suggestions for attracting butterflies next year?

Mine are still flowering! As is the miniature rose and an oriental poppy has an open flower and 8 buds - wallflowers are in full bloom still (they tend to stop at the end of November) and the lobelia and Californian Poppies think it's August..... Still have bees and butterflies in the garden here (5 miles inland of the south coast).

Yes! Ours is sprouting new growth all over the place. I also have a morning glory that was very disappointing all through summer and is now blooming absolutely magnificently every morning.

That’s interesting that others are seeing the same growth! I’m in the west of Scotland so a lot further north than you, @SleepingisanArt Are you further south, @cheesypinwheel ?

The other trees in the garden are losing their leaves as expected.

I still have busy lizzies, pelagoniums and fuchsias all in full bloom. I was also surprised to see a red admiral butterfly when I was pegging out the washing today. It's been really mild here though - I am in Kent, southern England.

My tete-a-tete narcissus are coming up. They normally come up in February.

My buddleia ended very very early this year and was quite poor, but my passionflower on the other hand is still flowering!

My Narcissus pseudonarcissus aren’t through yet. They usually appear about now
