Evergreen climber to grow on fence with passion flower

The house I'm moving into has a fence covered in beautiful passion flowers. SE facing I think. I presume this will all die off in the Winter so was thinking I could plant an evergreen to grow all over the fence - 4 seven foot panels - and then the passion flowers could mingle amongst it.

The aim is to cover the fence panels to full height to look nice all year round.

Is this a good idea? If so suggestions would be welcomed.

Also, how do I prune the passion flower which grows all over the fence panels?

All guidance much appreciated

Sliding in to recommend the shrub Winter Honeysuckle as it has been mentioned, the scent of lemon cutting through the frost and ice in the middle of winter is awesome. Love it.

I've grown some passion flower from seeds for the first time this year, only one planted out so far (the rest are in a growhouse) but it's not lost all its leaves - this is in Lancashire so maybe the op doesn't have the bare fence she was expecting!

Apologies if I've missed it, I don't think anyone has answered the OPs question Also, how do I prune the passion flower which grows all over the fence panels?

I'm curious about this too. I've made the mistake of having too many climbers with different pruning times, can be hard to keep under control. Of course if you want some cover at all times that may be inevitable! But what do people find works well with passion flower? (And any other particularly friendly combos)

Ooh I love honeysuckle, wasn’t aware of an evergreen so may have to look into that 🥰

I was going to suggest this (the evergreen one is lonicera japonica), it is a thug though so be prepared to cut it back hard a couple of times a year!

Jasmine polyanthum, smells so beautiful when in flower too

Climate change... you might get away with non classically hardy plants.

Mine is smothered with flowers but I can barely smell it (although I don’t have a good sense of smell). Could I have L x purpusii and you, L fragrantissima?

It does, but it needs a winter minimum of 10deg C.

Jasminum officinale looks similar and is hardy.
