Statement Pot Plants - Front House

atalost · 19/09/2024 00:14

Just completed a sweeping shingle drive and looking to put x4 large statement pot plants at the front of my house at the corners of the brickwork it either side of my front door and edge of either side of my detached house. I'm wanting something evergreen that won't need replanting too regularly that's hardy. Any ideas? Thanks in advanced

What kind of shape do you want? Natural, trimmed into a ball, lollipop ?
Is it S or N facing?

Some evergreen options for you, most would need to be kept trimmed into a ball or lollipop:

Viburnum Eve Price
Ceanothus
Pittosporum Golf Ball or Tom Thumb
Daphne Odora or Eternal Fragrance (these stay quite small so less need for trimming)
Hebe Topiaria

If you have lollipops you can also plant seasonal flowers round the bottom, bulbs, bedding plants, etc

potted plants sure, POT plants would certainly be a statement but not evergreen. it might attract unwanted attention as well.

yes it's a north american site, maybe the uk has similar but the concepts are very good.

What do you want them to say? "Here lives someone with more money than sense. Please help yourself" ?

Unless you are in the United States, ignore the post from GildedRage. 😂

It depends on what your budget is. You could have some large topiary, maybe yew or something like that, or niwaki cloud trees. Ilex crenata is a good species for cloud trees.

@landris whats wrong with the blue holly or arborvitae concept certainly that’s not North America specific? Or the design shape/size ? Might be nice if @atalost gave the dimension of the pots.

What's wrong with the concepts?

Apart from some of the plants in those suggestions not being frost hardy and therefore totally unsuitable for the UK climate at this time of year?

even here in north america the side plants would be changed out seasonally. but surely the blue holly and cedar which are the core component would work as a starting point.
