only thing this brings to mind is a strawberry but I don’t think it can self seed anyway I’ve never grown strawberries

can anyone help?

Wild strawberries will grow almost anywhere. The birds bring them ( not much use to humans, unfortunately)

You can eat wild strawberries, they're just much smaller than cultivated ones, they're very sweet and nice though and I like them as ground cover. They'll grow anywhere pretty much I think and spread easily by runners if not by seed.

That’s either a strawberry or a barren strawberry (Potentilla sterilis). Distinguishing feature is the central tooth of each leaflet - on Barren Strawberry it’s shorter than the two adjacent teeth. Size of that one looks more like wild strawberry to me.
