What plant is this?

I can only describe it.

If it was a straw it would be two toned. A green stem with an orange top. The stem is 7-9- inches and the orange part is 2-3 inches. No leaves.
TIA.

While we are good at IDing on this board, I think we would struggle to help with this! Where is it growing? Inside or outside? In a garden or wild? A photo is always best to ID, failing that a drawing?

It sounds like a houseplant my friend had, I think the ends were dipped in colour. I've no idea what it was called though.

mrandmrsrobinson · 04/08/2024 13:51

This one. It was outside

Would it be possible to get a closer pic that's a little less blurred please?

HauntedbyMagpies · 04/08/2024 14:05

Unless it's Eremurus Cleopatra?

Very pretty Cyclamens on the ground, by the way OP.

If it doesn't get ID'd today I'll take another pic tomorrow.

It's about 8-12 inches max. Could it be in its infancy?

I'll certainly be keeping an eye on it for the rest of the year :)

It reminds me of what's left of a daffodil when the petals fall off. Are you sure it hasn't flowered and you missed it?

Arum Italicum
Without the berries?

leeverarch · 04/08/2024 14:25

Yes, it looks like something that has finished whatever it was doing and is now dying back. Arum is a good call.

jennywrites · 04/08/2024 14:26

If someone has picked all the berries off just take care it's not a child as they are poisonous I think

mrandmrsrobinson · 04/08/2024 14:27

So its bloomed in the spring and this is now what is left?

OP posts:
jennywrites · 04/08/2024 14:29

No, if it is Arum the berries often come in the autumn so it's strange that they are not there

jennywrites · 04/08/2024 14:31

Although, a quick google says pheasants like them (if you're rural!)!

mrandmrsrobinson · 04/08/2024 14:34

It has no leaves. Just comes straight out of the ground.

Can you try dissecting the top? Make sure it isn’t a furled leaf?

Arum Italicum

Good shout! It does look like an Arum without berries, I would guess that’s what it is.

The italicum if the leaves have the veining, Arum maculatum if they don't I think?
