50th birthday Rose gift

Hi all, my sister is turning 50 and she is a keen gardener. I’d love to get her a “happy birthday” rose if there is such a thing? I was thinking a yellow rose for 50 but doesn’t have to be. I was googling and lots of “Fab @ 50 rose” gifts ideas came up but I’m not sure they are reputable plant providers. Is there such a rose and where do you highly recommend buying roses from? Any other ideas welcomed! Thank you Flowers

I always go for David Austin roses they are absolutely beautiful and smell gorgeous!

I would forget about the name, go to David Austin website, then they show you 'best for' health, scent etc. I would look at best for health, then choose one from there.

Yup, as pp have intimated, gardeners aren’t much interested in gimmicky gifts.

Does she have any of the David Austin tree roses? They make magnificent gifts and are lovely in the garden.

Unsurprisingly they’re all out of stock at the moment - how long do you have?

Thank you all so much. I’ve perused David Austin, some stunning choices. @BlanklyMyDear unfortunately her birthday is next week so I need to move quickly.

The big question is does she have a suitable space for a new rose? I wouldn't have, and tbh wouldn't choose a yellow one for my borders.

I'd look at plants which would work in a container, which does include some roses.

Another in favour of David Austin Roses. As a gardener I appreciate it when people talk to me about buying me a plant rather than just giving me a plant. I know my soil, space and what will and will not thrive there. Talk to your sister and find out if she would like a rose and if so what type, what colour and if she has knows the exact named one. She might ask for something else….my SiL asked for a large ceramic container for a rose she had just bought for her Bday.

David Austen roses are lovely. But Harkness Roses are also very good & they do a Fab @ 50 rose:

In my local garden centre David Austen roses are about £30 & Harkness roses are around £20.

David Austen do vouchers btw, so if you are unsure about what kind of rose you can always get her that and allow her the option to choose, we've done that before too when we know the person is quite particular

She has the space as she has just moved and is enjoying “setting up” her own garden but I do agree yellow isn’t to everyone’s taste. Lots of great ideas and advice here as always, thank you all Smile
