Hi, has anyone got any ideas what to do for my front garden? I've massively neglected it. The soil is hard and poor.
Has anyone got any ideas how to make this look nice but low maintenance with plants that will grow well? Things don't seem to thrive very well here. Thanks

Well, the first thing would be to improve the soil.

You will need to break up the surface and dig in organic matter. From what you say I would get manure and dig that in.

For low maintenance you need to look at perennials and roses. I recommend Pieris to absolutely everyone as it's completely idiot proof, there is a great variety and it's evergreen so there is something to look at all year round.

Second pieris, also various of the euonymus for bright shrubs that are quite easy to keep under control.

Some idea of whereabouts in the country you are and whether the garden is shady or sunny would allow for more recommendations.

I'm also a fan of pots in front gardens that can be swapped around seasonally - I like a scented plant near the front door so I've got a sweet box for winter, just moved a pot of lilies there today. Pots of bulbs, pansies and/or primulas for spring, something easy and cheerful like pelargoniums or petunias for summer colour.

Thanks. I'm in the south of England and the garden is south east facing so gets quite a bit of sun.

What about lavenders? You can get purples, white and pink.
Like baked, poor soil.
Plant in autumn or winter, and maybe water a couple of times in the first summer, but not after.
Literally need one chop per year. Excellent for pollinators.
