Pleached trees- what depth should garden bed be?

Hoping to create a garden bed to plant pleached trees at the bottom of my garden along the fence line. We want to plant both pleached trees and then under plant the trees. What depth would the bed have to be? Essentially we have no clue and would use a ready made border, but the company we hope to buy from doesn’t advise on the depth just the width. Would 1m be enough? Thanks in advance!

This answer from Just Pleachy might help: "The border depth is up to you, as long as it allows for the size of the pot. You can opt for slim borders, around 50cm, or deeper borders, approximately 120cm, which allow for underplanting."

Another thing I would add is to make sure your border is deep enough to allow access for pruning the trees. I posted on another thread recently as I'm putting in a run of trees and underplanting with ready-made borders too. My border is around 1m deep too! 🌳🌳🌳

Although I do wonder, whether I should have done more like 1.2m really... but it's built now! We will make it work. 😅

Thanks so much - very helpful.

In general, make borders as deep as you are able to fit, particularly if you are planting tall things in them. They always look much better and more balanced that way.

So if you can fit 1.2 m that's good, if you can fit 2m I would do that.

I agree with this too. My garden is too small otherwise I would have done it deeper. The bigger the border, the more luxe it looks!
