The top of this wall is all overgrown with weeds and I’d like to plant something there. Not sure how good the soil is. I don’t want to lose sunlight through that back door so ideally something that won’t grow too tall? Thanks in advance.

If you want something low and green, how about succulents?

Lemon thyme is low and a good spreader. I have an area with awful soil and planted one little 9cm pot for the bees 2 years ago, it’s now filled the border and it is covered in beautiful flowers that the bees love. It’s smells wonderful too.

Dry / poor soil / by the back door? Sounds like it is made to be a herb area!Grin

Herbs! Of course! Why didn’t I think of this? Thank you both 🤗

Aubretia for the spring colour. I agree that succulents would look great.

Saxifrage is a good alpine, low in height but spreads well. Any alpine/rockery plants should work well there

Nottingham catchfly, wallflowers, ivy leaved toadflax are all wall loving plants

Erigeron would be really pretty

Creeping thyme, erigeon, campanula - things that will tumble down & fill the gaps.
Along the top maybe other Mediterranean herbs that like poor soil & drier conditions - rosemary, lavender, oregano, marjoram, sage, or perennials like salvias or nepeta?

Oregano & marjoram are fairly invasive, so I'd avoid those.

How about a trailing rosemary?
