No idea- they’re lovely though!

DeedlessIndeed · 04/07/2024 19:30

The white looks like a verbascum

Ciri · 04/07/2024 19:31

Difficult to tell from that distance and without the leaves but the tall white ones look like verbascum

JamMakingWannaBe · 04/07/2024 19:33

The white one is a foxglove. It looks like it's self seeded onto the path.
The purple one is clary sage?

Nope, sorry - its not a foxglove. It's the same as the ones at the back of the bed.

delphi13 · 04/07/2024 19:40

The purple one is Perovskia blue spires. The other one looks like Mullein which looks white like that before and after flowering, when it is in flower it is yellow.

Pixiedust1234 · 04/07/2024 19:42

No idea but I really like the purple one. I think I need it.

Mullein comes in white too. They look lovely don't they?

The leaves are not white-ly hairy enough for Verbascum thapsum, which is the Verbascum most people mean by “mullein”. Agree it does look like a Verbascum, V chaixii might be a possibility.

The flowers/bracts on the other one don’t look like Perovskia which to me has a more delicate look

Use Google lens it will tell you

MereDintofPandiculation · 04/07/2024 19:51

If the blue is the same as the one on the RH edge, the flower shape looks like a Salvia

CoffeandTiaMaria · 04/07/2024 19:53

I think the white one is Eremurus, foxtail lily.

You could use google lens and tell us what it says.

The reason we’re having difficulty is not that we dont have the capability of recognising the plants, but because the photo is so poor that we can’t make out flower shape, leaf shape, leaf texture, let alone any of the other details that distinguish between species.

Wrong shaped leaves. Eremurus has long thin leaves.

Nepeta six hills giant for the purple one

The flower looks right for clary sage. But does it get that big?

Nepeta six hills giant for the purple one

Isn’t it too erect and with too large flowers?

So the tall white one mine says is Veronica longifolia. The purple one is a type of salvia

Well, the first is clearly wrong. “Longifolia”, as it sounds, means “having long leaves”. The white plant definitely does not have long leaves. I tend to agree with Salvia, but it isn’t in good enough focus to be sure.

There's a plant like the tall white one in the garden of a cottage on my school run tomorrow so I'll try to get a closer picture. I did wonder myself if it was a type of verbascum. I'd say they are about gladioli height, the flowers are very tightly packed up the stem. I've been admiring them for weeks and saw that picture on Pinterest. The source is here but there aren't any better pictures https://taylortripp.co.uk/projects/village-house-hampshire/

The chaixii deffo looks like what I've seen on the school run

Close up it’s rather nice with, if I remember correctly, bright orange stigma and purple fluffy anthers

anunlikelyseahorse · 04/07/2024 21:31

The photos are really blurred, my initial thought was Batisia but when I zoom in, I don't think the flowers are right, but it's hard with the blurry photo!
