Want to make the front of the house nicer, looking for ideas of what to do with front door area... I'm happy to take out the spindle bush as it is a bit boring and would prefer to grow a climber I think... Northwest facing but gets a lot of afternoon light.
There are hooks for hanging baskets but haven't got round to doing any and find they need too much watering tbh.
Any ideas?

A neighbour has planted pyracantha but trained it on a trellis against the wall, and she keeps it clipped to within an inch of its life! It looks fabulous and it is evergreen with white flowers in spring/summer that the bees love, and berries in the autumn for the birds.

I’d get two nice bay trees in pots and put them either side of the door. And I’d buy a ready made hanging basket. Give it a good water in the evening and again in the morning if it’s hot and feed it once a week with Tomorite or Miracle Grow. It will double in size.

Thank you for the suggestions! @Ithoughtitwasyou i love pyracantha, you can't see it on the photo but I have one I'm training underneath the front window (bargain £1.89 from Aldi last year!). It's an orange berry one but now you've got me thinking I may just put another one in of a different colour...
I also thought of a climbing rose but I've never grown roses before so feel a bit apprehensive! Maybe something evergreen would be nicer anyway.
@Moveoverdarlin bay in pots does look good but probably a bit too formal for me. Should've said but the rest of the front garden is a gravel garden with lots of grasses, and wildish looking flowers.

Star jasmine? The scent walking in would be amazing.

How about a Ceanothus, that you can train up the wall. It has beautiful blue flowers

If I go past the afore mentioned neighbours house I will take a photo of her pyracantha, I have serious pyracantha envy every time I see it, even though I have a 30ft hedge of it on the front of my house!

Climber would be lovely. Climbing roses are great because they're long flowering although not evergreen. Some varieties flower from early summer all the way to autumn. I have a climbing passionflower that's thriving on a North East facing wall that only sees morning sun so that might be an option too.

Definitely put some hanging baskets with colourful trailing flowers on those 2 wall brackets.

A large potted planted on the other side of the door....maybe a mini tree?

And give the gravel area a good weeding. A small bush like the one on the right side of your photo would be lovely planted under that window if there's soil under that gravel?

A vote for a camellia from me, or a climbing rose
