Dwarf fruit tree protection

I planted three dwarf fruit trees in my allotment earlier this year and I am now wondering if I should protect them from birds before next spring. Does anyone have any advice? I'd like to avoid spending £££ if I can. Can I just wrap them with netting or do I need a cage?

I don’t know a great deal about this but would have thought you only need to protect them once there is ripening fruit on the tree, so not until next year at least . And even so it depends on the type of fruit as to whether the birds will go for it or not.

Thank you. Yes, I realise I still have time... They're plum, apple and pear, in case it makes any difference.

It is the flowers you need to protect, birds like to eat them.

Good news - apple, pear and plum do not need bird netting. Our local allotments are full of them - all open.
It is cherry trees which the birds get to and can be a pain to net. I had a Morello which got too big to drap over netting and the birds ate the lot!
Current bushes and blueberries need netting as the bird will eat the buds.

Oh that’s great news! Thank you very much!
