Next Spring I intend to move. Some of the plants in my garden have sentimental attachments. I have a beautiful climbing rose that is about 6ft tall at the moment. Would I be able to chop this right down at some point and take it with me?

If you plan to take plants, I would recommend doing it in the winter when plants are dormant and any pruning would help with any disruption of roots.
Roses can cope with a hard prune and I have moved some in the past and they have done well.
Place in large pots (to allow for any delay in moving and to ensure they will have room to grow and thrive until a time they are rehomed).

Any tree or shrub will suffer some degree of stress when uprooted. The shock of transplanting or moving can be lessened if the task is carried out correctly.

I would suggest starting some cuttings. Moving established plants is always a challenge - you need a much bigger rootball than you imagine.
