My Japanese Anemones are drooping!!

I walked out in the garden today to see this! Picture attached.

We have had sporadic rain recently after the deluge of the previous months. I was planning on watering this evening.

Any ideas why my beloved plant is so droopy!! It's one of the highlights of the summer and I love it!

Obviously I have watered it now.
Do you, wise gardeners, think that lack of water is the cause?

A search revealed pictures of Crown Rot in Mississippi on JAs, but I can't see any fungus and I am in South Wales!

Imo they have grown too quick this year because of all the rain. Whilst atm they look magnificent I will be amazed if they don’t look awful by next month.

Gardeners can never be happy it seems 🥲

Hello EarthyMamma,

Have you checked the stem that has dropped for damage . It’s difficult to see why there is just a problem with the flower stem and not the rest of the plant. I had something similar some years ago after foxes running around the garden at night the following morning I found two drooping stems on closer inspection I found the two stems had broken clean off at the base of the plant.

I’ve noticed in the recent hot weather that some plants have drooped in the middle of the day (high rate of evaporation from leaves; plants haven’t been able to produce a high enough throughput of water to support it) but have perked up as soon as the air cooled in the evening.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

No foxes but a Bedlington and Poodle mongrel who doesn't dare step in the border! 😳🐕‍🦺💖

That's a feasible idea; we are in South Wales and it's been a deluge for months then the odd baking hot day. 💦🌫️🌊🌤️🌦️

That was my first thought but the stems surrounding are much stronger.
The Japanese Anemone is quite a large plant; I might have nicked the roots/base when I was trying to tackle the ground elder.

Anyway, my solution was to cut out that part of the plant and the roots and it is thriving now. Though it won't be the fabulous plant of last year, I will forgive it!!
I don't think it was diseased so hopefully we will have a good show.

I am actually sat out having a cup of coffee in the garden as the sun sets. It's not too cold yet so I am enjoying this rare opportunity to relax.
I love the gloaming.

It's one of my most perniciously rampant weeds. Wish I'd never planted 'September (not very charming) Charm.' And 'Pamina's coming up through the concrete drive. I like the white ones though.

I have noticed that Japanese Anemone can run rampant if left to itself. There are a couple of gardens share it has definitely taken over.
Our local church closed a few years ago and one area is full of pink anemones and brambles. It is such a shame.
(I may have reached through the fence and claimed a clump)

Thank you, my garden is definitely my happy place though I am not as nimble as I was.
I love to crochet and do some drawing occasionally but the garden is certainly my creative space.

I dream of living somewhere with warmer summers. However I am so grateful for the time I have spent over the years in this tiny space.

(Neighbours have scrambler bikes so the peace of mind of previous years is somewhat compromised but I have headphones and learned to tune the noise out.)

Well this isn't about droopy anemones, just me rambling.
Thank you all for your replies.
Any chance of pictures from your gardens?
