I have recently inherited the bush in the photo below. It is in a large pot with compost. I doubt it's had the compost changed or been watered in a very long time as some parts of it look very brown. Only thing is, I have no idea what this bush is called or what type of compost I should buy. Does anyone know please?

Looks like a golden euonymus - tough as old boots. Would be happier in the ground than in a pot, they turn into quite big shrubs but dont mind being cut back regularly. If it’s going back in a pot then any substantial compost - id go for a john innes.

It looks a bit like an emerald and gold euonymus perhaps?

Yes, I think Euonymus. No need for special compost.

Agree with others, it's a euonymus. One thing I'd suggest you look out for is that sometimes they grow branches with plain green foliage, and you need to cut them off. They are more vigorous than the variegated branches, and can take over if they aren't removed.

The same goes for other variegated shrubs too.
