succulent pan - full shade all winter.

I've got 2 pans like this with drainage. Was thinking of succulents. But....my garden is very hot and sunny in summer but (due to height of surrounding buildings) sun free and dark for 5 months of the year in the winter. If I add lots of drainage might it work??butlers sink

Failing that - any other ideas?

saxifrages?

although IME you can't kill sempervivums, and there are some lovely varieties out there (particularly the chick charms ones, I've got a few and they're as nice in real life as in the pictures)

Sempervivums are lovely for a trough, I agree. For more ideas have a look at https://southwoldsucculentco.co.uk/ for a wonderful selection of hardy succulents, spoilt for choice! Winter shade shouldn’t be a problem as they will be dormant and not growing at that time of year, but full sun in summer is essential. It also depends on where you live, as some may not survive too far north.

Thanks both - I'm in the north west, but maritime, so it's less the cold, more we have wet winters. But I could put them under the eaves to protect them from the worst of that....
