Giving up on wisteria?

When do you give up on a wisteria?

We inherited a potted one with our house that doesn’t flower. I assume it’s at least 4 years old as this is our 3rd summer in the house. It’s probably in a too small pot and generally looks a bit worn out. I’m indifferent to wisteria and wouldn’t choose it myself.

It’s in a sun trap that gets very very hot in the afternoon in summer. Is there any point persisting with it or should I give it a nice funeral on the compost heap and get a bigger pot and something more forgiving like a climbing rose?

Wisterias take a while to flower. It can be speeded up by pruning to kid it into thinking it’s reached the top of the tree canopy. So worth persisting. But if you don’t like them anyway, no reason why you shouldn’t replace it with something you do like

I'd give it away rather than compost it, but definitely get something you actually like!

Thanks @therejustbarely and @MereDintofPandiculation

The local garden centre had 20% off roses so I took it as a sign 😅 and bought myself a beautiful Claire Austin climbing rose. Enormous pot is being delivered and I will offer our fussy plant up in the village gardening group for someone else to cosset!!

Don’t give up on her! Mine has flowered this year, her 6th year! Apparently they can take up to 7 years to flower. Mines in a pot at the front of the house.
