Courgette plants struggling

Help please, can anyone suggest why my courgette leaves are going yellow then burnt looking? Each raised bed has chopped up small branches at the bottom (about 8ins deep) and then filled with new compost, again about 8 inches deep. Should I cut these leaves off? I’m watering them about every 3 days and have used tomato feed in the last water to try and perk them up. Thanks in advance.

What plant was chopped up and put at the bottom??? Certain plants, laurel for example, contain cyanide which can leach into the soil.

I've grown courgettes in pots, and as long as the liquid fertiliser continues during growing, they have been bountiful. Were they hardened off before planting outside? Some of my earlier plants got a white/yellow tinge on the leaves which I read was due to it being too cold for them. Hopefully yours get some warmth and take off soon.

Hi, it was branches from hazel and holly that I put at the bottom, and then fallen leaves from the apples trees we have. I grew them on the windowsill inside and them put them in our unheated greenhouse for a few days before I planted them out.

Not sure what area you are,i do seeds in the kitchen window sill, about 6 inches high, they are transferred to a frost free greenhouse, then a week outside before planting out. Everything gets fed with either chicken manure pellets or tomato feed liquid, but never till at least flowers appear

They look like they aren't getting enough sun to me.

You can grow beans around the courgettes. Corn too. The old 3 sisters way. The beans help with fixing nitrogen for the squashes. The corn provides structure for the beans and the squashes cover the ground to keep out weeds and keep in water.

But they need more sun.

That is of course a US method, and as you say, in the UK the squashes do not need to be shaded by the beans
