Doorway container plant - full sun

I'm looking to improve the kerb appeal of my house by adding a couple of structural container plants either side of my front door. At the moment I have a couple of Christmas trees, but I'll need to move them into the shade shortly as the front of our house gets full sun in the hotter months. I've previously tried box plants, but they started to get scorched.

I'm wondering whether a grass or cordyline may fare better? Something colourful would be perfect. Any recommendations gratefully received, thanks!

Where are you in the UK? If you're in the south, I'd be tempted by a pair of olive trees... not cheap though!

Should have said, I'm West Yorkshire so ideally something hardy. Although I do have a conservatory I could put them in over the winter if needed.

They are quite hardy - down to -12 apparently? You could have some fleece on standby...

Bay trees look nice and you could use the leaves. Also heavy and hardy so less likely to be nicked
