What do I do with my tulips now they have flowered

I have 3 large pots of tulips. Two years ago I took them out of the pots and replanted them later in the year. I got bushy leaves but no flowers the following year so I threw the bulbs away. I was thinking of planting this lot in a raised bed. Do I take the bulbs out of the pot and plant later in the year or do I move them now? I will buy new bulbs for the pots next year. I would be grateful for any advice as they were beautiful.

I would feed them some blood and bone in the pot, make sure the flower stem is cut off. When the leaves die down cut them back then replant in the flower beds.

Cut the stems, leave the leaves - they need to photosynthesize for a bit to refuel the bulb. Don't cut them until they die back. They'll be fine in the ground or pot until next year - they don't mind the cold, they actually need it to flower - they need the cold then warmer weather to flower.

I have been growing tulips in pots for a few years. I have left them in the pot but I have never got them to bloom again. Maybe I am picking the wrong varieties.

My tulips only seem to last a couple of years, but I’m not in the uk and it gets really hot in the summer. I feed all my spring bulbs after they finish flowering and that really helps them for the following year. I’ve got hyacinths that are over 10 years old, admittedly they don’t have such big flowers, but they look and smell lovely. Good luck with your tulips.
