It has sprouted up all over the place!! In the planter I put in wildflower seeds last year so wasn't sure if it was part of that.

What weed is this?

No idea but I get lots of it. It has very small pink flowers on it and the bees seem to like them. Plus very easy (and satisfying) to pull up later on Grin

settles down in thread to await the garden brains

EDIT - What's that pink flower next to it?

Rosebay willow herb. Don't let it set seed you will have millions.

Pixiedust1234 · 03/05/2024 17:54

I have the Rosebay too, it's a lot taller and has rhizomes. The picture one has small roots iirc.

Rosebay willowherb. It can spread madly.

Willowherb. It is known in America as fireweed, probably because it spreads like wildfire.

I have this. My partner loves all weeds and refuses to pull them out. Just more work in the garden for me!

Willow herb. I've had hawk moth caterpillars on this before so keep mine.

It's because it's normally the first thing to pop up again after a fire!

khamps · 03/05/2024 19:05

Thanks all! I had been googling for hours! I will remove it as it definitely looks like it is spreading!

It grew a lot on bombed out sites after the Blitz. I think there was a Jill Paton Walsh book called Fireweed.

No, because it appeared after the war on bomb sites and burnt soil.
