Most seed companies to a 'sea of blue'.. it is usually mixed annuals.. so you might get a variety of seedlings...

AlisonDonut · 02/05/2024 13:33

Is there a list of flowers that it will include on the packet?

I can see I think both Nigella and Cornflower in there.

NauseousNancy · 02/05/2024 14:20

Unfortunately no list on the packet, which is very unhelpful.

Im planning on getting them into some big pots so was hoping to identify what’s there so I know where to put them!

Unwins and Marshalls both do a “sea of blue” mix, with identical photo on the front, showing Phacelia, cornflower, Ipomea, borage and something I don’t recognise.

Dottiethekangaroo · 02/05/2024 20:38

the biggest photo looks like borage to. Me

NauseousNancy · 05/05/2024 08:20

Yes they were unwins, kids got me them for Mother’s Day. Just hoping they aren’t radishes 😂

Process of elimination-

It doesn't look like Borage because the leaves look too smooth. Borage have very veiny leaves with lots of detailed ridges on them.

none of the photos look like morning glory (at least not like the ones I'm growing) which have quite unique leaves with a split down the middle and pointy ends

cosmos are feathery delicate leaves

I'm thinking perennial cornflower maybe?

NauseousNancy · 05/05/2024 09:03

Yes definitely not cosmos as have some of them growing.

I think cornflower for the bigger ones is right!

Perennial cornflower would have been what I’d have said for the LH one, but it’s a perennial not an annual. Lovely thing to have, though. Beautiful flower shape.

Last one almost looks like lupin. But it’ll be easier to identify all of them when they’re a bit bigger

I love perennial cornflower @MereDintofPandiculation i used to have drifts of them in our last house but don't have any in this garden.

The only problem they have is that after a while the leaves can be prone to mildew so I used to chop them right back and up they'd come with new fresh foliage.

Yes, same here. Flowers, then mildew, pull off all the mildewed stems, then fresh new green leaves and more flowers.
