How to take cuttings off a peace lily?

I have a very robust peace lily which a friend gave me and which needs repotting. I would like to take cuttings and get a few more plants for the house - does anyone know how to do that? TIA.

That looks like ivy rather than a peace lily!

It's a similar method to propagating hostas, you divide the crown when repotting. Depending on how tight the rootball is either pull apart by hand or use a breadknife.

Thats not a peace lily?

But to take a cutting off that plant simply cut a bit off of a trailing end and shove it in some compost (so that at least one of the nobbles on the stem is under the dirt) and keep it damp :-)

@Nitpix @Misstabithabean I was told it was when I was given it but who knows! I am not very green fingered as may be apparent...! 😂

That is how you propagate a peace lily but the plant she has is NOT a peace lily!

It looks like Devils Ivy (there are variations but they mostly grow from cuttings as I described above)

I've found the nobbles @Nitpix thank you - will try it with the end and see what transpires...

I have both a peace lily and a devils ivy (which is what I believe you have).

It looks more like Pothos (Epipremnum aureum). How to propagate: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/houseplants/pothos/propagating-pothos.htm

This is one I grew from a cutting using the method I described. I believe you can also root it in a glass of water and then plant but I have not tried that method.

BY the way its called devils ivy because it is virtually 'unkillable'

harriethoyle · 02/05/2024 11:46

Hold my beer @Nitpix ... 😂

I'm also laughing that I thought it was a peace lily and, in fact, it's a plant of the devil!

I'd have killed it, with a bread knife.

Hahaha! Usually devils ivy grows from one stalk and then splits off so splitting the roots doesn't give you two plants it just gives you the same plant with a smaller rootball and a useless half a rootball...haha!
