Jasmine houseplant

I got a jasmine plant for an Easter present. It flowered and seemed fine. The plant looks brown now and dried up even though I watered carefully. However there are green shoots and one really long one that has climbed. What should I do with it?

Repot in fresh compost, one pot size up, excellent drainage. Cut back dead bits, give new bit something to climb on . Keep damp, but not wet, place in good indirect light and hope for the best.

Thank you!

Pull off all those dead flowers and any dead leaves, it’ll make you feel better. Any branch with only brown leaves can be cut off. The long green branches can be coiled round and tied in.

I planted one in the garden years ago, and it went mad with excitement. We had to take it out after a few years as it started trying to break into the loft.

I don’t think they do particularly well indoors, the atmosphere is possibly too dry. Can you plant it outside?

The species sold as a houseplant is Jasminum polyanthum and not particularly hardy. Probably better in a conservatory where it gets more light.

The usual white garden one is Jasminum officionale, and the yellow winter flowering one is Jasminum nudiflorum

Useful to know.

I have the same one from Easter and it’s thriving and still flowering! It’s on the window cill but not in a sunny spot, it’s north facing, so bright light but not direct sun and it needs watering twice a week compared to my others that I only do once a week as it seems a thirsty plant.
