When would I plant out Bowles Mauve cuttings when/if they "take"?

I've a great big Bowles Mauve in the border and it's getting leggy and tired now but having read a bit it seems that they are not long lived anyway. So I checked about taking cuttings, ok to do around July or so, but what I can't figure out (as a dummy in the garden really) is when would I plant the cuttings in the ground?

Is it Autumn the first year or should I leave them over winter somewhere sheltered and plant out in Spring? I can't seem to find that info online, but I might be looking in the wrong places!

Thanks so much if you know and can give advice.

No idea, but glad you asked as I've been looking for the same info for cuttings in general.

There's lots about how to take cuttings and get them to root but hardly anything on what to do after that.

It's a relief to know that someone else is the same as me cuttings wise!

I'm just guessing Autumn as the plant is a perennial, but since it's the first time attempting cuttings I'm thinking the the rooted cuttings will be still quite small and vulnerable by September/October, and would they survive over the Winter? But I haven't a clue either way!

I take mine in mid summer from a new non flowering stem. Follow the general advice for cuttings and wait until new growth appears. I keep mine in the cold frame, sheltered place will do, until the spring.

What @Beebumble2 says. Let the plant be your guide. Keep it in a pot till it’s big enough to hold its own.

Thanks for the advice. I'll put any cuttings that take in a sheltered spot until late Spring next year so.

Don’t forget to water and check them occasionally
