Added bonus... if you get frogs and toads spawning in it, they'll eat the slugs too

lol this is WHY I am sticking the pond there

there BETTER be frogs there PQD!

Get some old batten planks and knock up a bit of trellis to go over the top to stop inquisitve children falling in.

Make sure you put something in so the froggies can get out easily. If you can get hold of some barley straw, bung some in an old net bag (like you get onions in) and add it to the pond to keep the algae down.

If you have any large stones in your plot try to make frog and toad shelter out of them at the edge of your beds (or planting area) - that will keep the frogs where you want them (they don't spend a lot of time in the pond) and try to keep the grass relatively long where you can - esp around the pond. They like the edges of the plot between the grass and soil - esp if you have a gulley where the two meet.

I had a lot of success getting frogs and toads onto my plot by doing all this. I had two toads on my plot all the time and before I strimmed between the beds I had to pick them up and move them out of the way. They were always in one of two or three places so very easy to find. They didn't seem to mind being moved at all and would wait patiently until I had finished, then I'd put them back where I found them

Do you know of anyone who has a few tadpoles they could part with - will help colonise the pond very quickly.
