Hi All,

Can anyone tell me if there is something I can plant on a grave at the end of April, that would flower this year? Favourite colour is pink, or other pastels. It's a small graveyard that is quite sheltered, and the grave is not overshadowed by trees etc. It's in Scotland (central belt, not the Highlands!).

They are to be planted as part of an ashes interring ceremony, but the weather forecast on the day is looking rather gloomy. I did think of letting off a single pink etc low noise rocket/firework to brighten things up at the end... Do you think anyone would mind? There's unlikely to be anyone else in the 'old' part of the cemetery on a weekday, and most of the village inhabitants should be at work elsewhere.

Ditch the firework. It really is not appropriate.

Don’t use fireworks, they upset animals.

You could try nerines and pink echinacea for flowering later in the year when other flowers have finished. For late spring, perhaps pink bleeding heart (so pretty).

Then some annuals or bedding plants that can be planted in flower for immediate colour, eg primroses (which do return each year).
Sending condolences.

Malva moschata, pink flowered version, has a long flowering period, summer into autumn.

Hello again,

Thanks very much for your suggestions! Got some:
Bowdenii Nerine (pink)
Lily of the Nile (blue and white)
Allium (white)
Gaura 'whirling butterflies' pink/white
Mixed bag of echinacea pallida (pink) salvia officinalis (blue), achillea millefolium (white)
Plus bulb food and a dibber.
Should flower July-October.
DH can do the planting, which will give him something to do.
Yes, the firework is bound to annoy someone, so I'll give it a miss.

That sounds beautiful.

You could scatter some heartsease pansy seeds around too.

Hi Everyone. Ive just joined so be gentle with me lol. I visit my mums grave regularly and she loved Roses and Carnations so it costs me 60 quid to fill every vase with all different colour roses. But I was told roses don't last in the cold weather but my anxiety goes through roof if i cant get roses anywhere. I burst out crying one day in Asda as they had none in back or stands. I felt so embarrassed. Anyway excuse me for going on but I'm not a gardener in slightest but i want to do an overhaul on Mums Garden and plant some beautiful vibrant colour plants but I haven't got a clue where to start. I’d really help some advice. Many Thanks for reading xxx

Condolences to you.

It would probably be best to start a new thread with your own subject so you get some responses. If you say a budget and maybe mention some flowers you would like to grow eg roses, carnations, any others, then you'll hopefully get some good answers.

I have had some luck with very small roses outdoors, the type you get in a small pot from supermarket that are meant for indoor decorations, but someone more knowledgeable than me will likely have better suggestions.
