Any ideas on what this plant is?

It’s growing on a bank which was mounded up on top of my garden during building work so it could be anything. Plant id app is telling me spearmint but it isn’t even vaguely minty. Stem is woody. Could it be my blueberry bush?

Any ideas on what this plant is?

It looks exactly like mint. But the leaves are tiny. It could be a variety of marjoram, oregano or lemon verbena. What does it smell like if you crush a leaf between your fingers?

Ioverslept · 20/04/2024 17:18

Looks like a shrub or maybe damson

Ioverslept · 20/04/2024 17:19

Not a blueberry nor mint

Nothing at all which is why I was sceptical of the mint suggestion. Mint would have been a contender given what used to be under the bank (vegetable garden)

All mints have square stems. So i don't think it is a mint. I would guess at a baby tree because of the woody stem but I don't know which type

user09876543 · 20/04/2024 19:31

There are three stems close together

None of those. Wrong leaves, and it looks woody.

it doesn’t look “exactly like mint” because mint has opposite leaves and these are alternate

menopausalmare · 20/04/2024 20:44

If in doubt, don't pull it out. Wait and see.

MereDintofPandiculation · 20/04/2024 20:48

Plant app saying mint when this plant doesn’t have opposite leaves is a good example of why you should never accept a plant app id without checking different sources.

Perhaps a prunus sucker. Any nearby plum or cherry trees? Or a willow seedling.

CatherinedeBourgh · 20/04/2024 20:50

It looks very like the plum seedlings growing in my garden.

We do have roses in a native hedge close by so it’s possible. There are no plums in our garden but there is a goat willow

Pretty sure that's a very small tree. Not sure what type but it has that 'I'm going to grow massive' look about it.

No, it's not possible to be a rose. A rose has compound leaves made up of leaflets.

Goat willow might be a good bet - pull a piece off your goat willow and hole it next to the mystery plant.

Unfortunately my goat willow is massive. Taller than my house. You can’t even see the shape of the leaves since the branches are so high up

Can you find a goat willow from nearby? =
87The green stem looks more willow than Prunus. But I'm not up on willows."Scuse cat for extra characters.

The goat willow saplings on Google all seem to have pink stems and yours seems green.
