Want to grow this so that it spreads higher up once it has cleared the cabin.

Is it ok to stake it and tie all the branches to the single stake for a couple of years until it grows a bit vertical, then remove the stake and let it spread.

Alternatively, was thinking of guying the two or three branches that are on course to hit the cabin as it grows. There's a couple of crossing branches I could fix this way too.

Final option I suppose is pruning out the two or three branches that would hit the cabin. If this approach, should I do it sooner rather than later so that the energy can go into growth of the rest of the tree.

Thanks

You can either remove the lowest branches altogether, prune the offending branch to a bud facing in the 'right' direction to make it grow the way you want it to, or you can tie the branch to another one so it is pulled more upright. Old tights make good plant ties as they are flexible, don't damage bark, and are an unobtrusive colour.
