Raised bed newbie

I love gardenning but have just got back into it after being in rental for 4 years.

So I'm starting to research raised beds as I hate the front lawn so have dug it up! I'm in South wales about 2 miles inland and the garden is a 6x5 west facing plot. I plan to put in 4 square beds, 2 for food plants (herbs/veg/fruit) and 2 for flowers. maybe some arches for climbers and plant clover for the paths between the beds.

I'd love to know things to avoid/things not to do to learn from your experience

Also if there is anything perfect for west facing plots please suggest away! Thanks 🤩

We have raised beds made of decking libed with black fabric usually used as a weed suppressing nembrane. Now 10 years old with minimum rot.

I hate to rain on your parade OP, but it's getting a bit too late to be starting veg for the summer season. Unless you've already started what you're planting? You could possibly still get away with potatoes and of course, things like Radishes and lettuce. You could also buy plugs to use but it does mean that your veg ends up costing you a lot more than what it would have done to buy as normal.

In any case, I recommend the VegTrug! Easy to put together, much higher up so no bending!
