Round Up

We have a big unruly clump of bamboo that's spreading into my neighbours and they're not too happy about it.
I was going to get it dug out, but it's in an awkward spot and the gardener says Round up is the only way he can do it. It really does have to be done.
I hate Round up (but tbh that's by osmosis as I don't really know whats so bad about it)
I never use it in the garden but I wonder is it justified on this occasion?

Try using ammonium sulphamate if you don't want to use glyphosate.

@1Week , you can buy it, but they will advertise it as a compost enhancer as the EU tried to ban it as a weed killer. Your gardener should be well aware of it.

And if the EU banned it as a weedkiller, it would be worth seeing why

Yeah. I don't know much about ot, just generic 'bad'. But it might one of those dose makes the poison things and to be reserved for hard cases.

I believe it was because the Irish objected as it hadn't been tested on dogs. Strangely they are quite happy for it to be used by amateur gardeners as a compost accelerator.
Note that it is not illegal to use it in either way.

Round Up works really well. It is drawn into the roots and inactivated when it hits soil, so doesn't poison the ground. If you are trying to kill something deep-rooted it is supreme. That said, there are possible links to cancer, so be careful if you use it, and keep away from food crops.

Thanks @CointreauVersial that's very informative. I might go for it for the bamboo removal - it's far from food crops and the gardener it's a sensible sort who will use it carefully I'm sure
