Shady raised beds - what to grow?

On the side of our house we have two shady raised beds. They get a tiny bit of afternoon sun as the house faces east/west but mostly shaded by the house.

I don’t want to grow leafy green veg, tried that last year and all I achieved was feeding the slugs. What annuals/perennials could I grow instead that will thrive in fairly damp shade?

I’ve got a similar area in my garden. I’ve got ferns (not much to see in the winter though some are evergreen, but starting to look wonderful now as their fronds unfurl), hellebores, Japanese anemones (which can take over), cyclamen, primroses, some grasses like Japanese forest grass, foxgloves. There are some helpful websites (the RHS or crocus) where you can be quite specific about your conditions and they’ll suggest some other options. Good luck.

ps I’d have said hostas too - but not if you have a slug problem!

Heuchera, ferns, hellebore, hostas (also a slug favourite), azalea, rhododendron all growing in my shady boarders

Dicentra do well in shade. Mine are looking good at the moment.

Pieris, ferns, heucheras, euphorbia

Raspberries at the back?

Thanks all! Some great suggestions. I’ve just put in a hedge of hydrangeas and geranium on the adjacent garden bed so ferns, dicentra and Heuchera would look nice I think.
