Border advice please!

Name changed to ask for some advice.

Youngest & I dug out the edge of a new border yesterday! Going to dig off the turf at the weekend and dig over with some soil improver.

Any advice on how to fill please? Where should the taller plants go etc? I'm a complete novice and would appreciate any help 😊

I’m confused. Is the turf going to be the bed?

what do you like? How much are you going to garden going forward? Budget?

The bed will be next to the path, the turf is being dug up over the weekend.

No budget really, just after ideas and advice on placement.

if you're not really into gardening, i’d have 3 shrubs and daffodil and hyacinth bulbs at the edge. That way it’ll be low maintenance but effective. I would consider how much sun it’ll get before choosing shrubs.

Once the turf is removed it would be a good idea to add some topsoil and manure - the level is reduced when the turf is removed.
As it’s by a path some small rounded shrubs would be good - Daphne (often winter flowering), viburnum davidii (mo flowers but evergreen),pieris (acid soil I think). Paeoni , nice flowers early on . But a good thing is ground cover roses - repeat flowering all summer , easy maintenance.

Other posters have already made very good points.

Have a look for things that flower at different times of the year.

Perhaps around the edge have some lavender plants which are great in the summer and attract a lot of bees, mixed in with tulips and daffodils which flower in the spring.

If the wall in the background of the photo belongs to you then maybe fix a trellis to it (slatted wood frame) and then you can plant a climber that will grow up beside that window. An example of what to plant would be maybe a wisteria or clematis.

Then for the middle part I would say go and have a look at some local nurseries (local nurseries are often cheaper than the big national chains). Also have a look online and see what sort of plants you like the look of.

Some plants need cutting back each year but you can read about that in the description.

If you have a tall climber at the back, covering the wall, and some shorter plants and bulbs around the edge then you can't really go too wrong with what you choose to go in the middle.
