Hello, I'm having a garden party in June and my small garden is looking a bit sad. I don't have a huge budget but need 3-4 reasonably sized plants that will be in bloom in early June. Ideas please.

This is to go in beds that get quite a bit of sun

Perennials? Foxgloves, alliums, lupins would look great at that time of year. Roses too.

Or if you’re after flowering shrubs, then escallonia pink Elle, philadephus, choisya, azalea, jasmine, lilac all likely to be doing well in June.

Thanks not heard of lots of these, I'm extremely amateur but keen to learn more

I would go one weekend before your garden party to the gsrden centre and buy what's in flower cos one week later it'll still look amazing and no stress

A quick easy solution for your June party is to have some tubs with colourful bedding plants. Shrubs and perennials can take a while to establish.

@Screamingabdabz makes a good suggestion.

I would perhaps go for some nice perennials or big annuals. Nepeta 'Six Hills Giant' ought to be full of flowers (and bees!) by then. It can easily get to a metre by a metre, though in the first year more likely smaller. Even cheaper, cosmos ('Dazzler' and 'Purity' - respectively dark pink and white - are nice varieties) is an annual you could sow, or buy ready-sown, and they'll give you lovely feathery tall plants. As a PP says, digitalis is nice.

If you fancied climbers - you could climb them up a pretty support - keep an eye on Aldi or Sainsburys or wherever. They often have tiny clematis that are an absolute bargain. Or, from a nursery, a passionflower or the chocolate vine, akebia quinata, would be beautiful. The advantage to a climber is that it's so easy to drape and support it wherever it needs to be.

This will be a very expensive way to do it, though! And no guarantee things will still be in flower a week later.

Akebia quinata is one of my favourites but mine is flowering now and will be done in May.

Oh, interesting! Mine flowers through until well into June, but we are in north Yorkshire. I had to check the RHS, which confirms you're not wrong.

Can you start some annual seeds off inside or in a greenhouse. Cosmos, nasturtiums and Calendula will give you loads of colourful flowers.
if not both will grow directly planted in the soil, but might take a little longer to flower.
For cheapness, keep an eye on the reduced sections of the garden centres, although the DIY stores are often better reductions as they usually don’t look after the plants well. I’ve just got two planters of polyanthus for 89p each, they just needed a bit of tidying. There maybe similar summer bargains.

Roses peonies delphiniums some of the oriental poppies ( mine are often more May than June). Scatter seeds poppies and cornflowers now and they will pop up everywhere. Alliums also gorgeous. Might be better to plant up a couple of big containers ( half barrels are lovely) with plants close together to be centrepieces as you can always plant in the garden after your party and enjoy in coming years

Salvia Amistad, Salvia Blue Butterflies, and Verbena Bonariensis will do the job.

Perennial erysium such as Bowles Mauve and Apricot twist are value for money with a long flowering period so would be good to include. I’ve had Bowles Mauve in flower from February to November before.
