Neighbour’s hedge cuttings

Our neighbour has cut down / significantly pruned a sizeable hedge between our gardens. It’s largely rooted from her side, so that’s her hedge to cut. However it’s left a lot largish dying branches on our side. Do I need to take them to the disposal site myself or can I tip them back over the fence? It’s going to take quite a bit of work / time to clear. They have gardeners who do the work on their side.

I’m a bit sad to lose a mature holly hedge, so I’m a little grumpy, but they are generally good neighbours.

I'd pick them up/clear them this time if you are good neighbours but I'd mention it to them when you next see them so they can make sure that the gardeners clear the waste from your side too. Make sure you give them access.

There’s hours of work there, but yes, I think you’re right. Thanks!

How did they prune "your" side without access?
I'd ask that she arrange for her garden waste to be cleared from your garden ASAP please.

SoftFroggie · 01/04/2024 09:31

She’s cut (on their side) branches that go over or through the fence so most of the growth on our side of the fence is dead. Some
is entangled with the fence so
I’ll need to take a saw to it. There’s quite a lot -
would make a pile the size of a car. It’s her plants to prune, but there’s a lot of waste on our side (I could make a pile the size of a car?) I think I’ll have to burn it as there’s so much.

When we cut our hedge we always clear up any bits that fall in our neighbour's garden.

deplorabelle · 02/04/2024 16:26

Please don't burn it. The smoke from a pile that size will be a serious health hazard for you and all your neighbours

isitbananatimealready · 02/04/2024 21:30

Maybe ask her whether she realises that her gardeners have left a huge pile of prunings on your side, and would it be possible to arrange for them to come and sort it out. She might have no idea they have left your garden in such a state.

In my view, the workers should really have taken all of it away. They made the mess, they clear it up.

TraitorsGate · 02/04/2024 21:40

We always pay our gardeners to remove anything large that's fallen onto the neighbours side and to cut back overhanging branches

Curtainsforus · 03/04/2024 10:50

I think you should mention the mess to your neighbours and ask their gardeners to clear it up. I;d deal with the odd branch of five but not the amount it seems you have to deal with.

Thats what we do but TBH, not pick up every tiny bit

OP, just pick them up as it will create bad blood IMO

Pick them up and move in, time heals until next time

Ask nicely if their gardener will come round and clear the branches from your side soon?
