Ideal Plants For My Mums Grave

Hello,

Looking for some help, I want to plant up a planter for my mums grave with flowers etc but I’m unsure as to what to use.
My mum knew what was good but unfortunately I am clueless.
Im looking for plants/flowers that look nice but also quite hardy and don’t need much maintenance as I won’t be tending to it everyday. Also to look nice most of the time.

Thanks in advance!!

The graveyard where our family members are buried have a lot of rabbits, so we always try to use rabbit resistant plants and flowers. Not sure if the graveyard where your Mum is will have the same problem, but it's worth bearing in mind - maybe try something like lavender or geraniums xx

You’d be better planting in the ground else watering will be a problem in the summer

What a lovely idea OP.

I agree with @MereDintofPandiculation that you are better off planting in the ground if you can.

If you have to plant in a container then get the biggest one you can as it will need less watering. If it were me I'd plant a little shrub in the pot, something like a Skimmia japonica hat will be evergreen all year round, have flowers in summer and sometimes berries in the autumn.

Also into the pot you could put some miniture daffodil bulbs and some tulip bulbs which will come up in spring and something like Geranium Rosanne which will flower all summer.

You will definitely need to visit regularly to water your pot even in rainy weather pots need watering.

Good garden centres are full of knowledgeable staff and if you went along to one of them and explained what you want to do they will be ever so helpful and point you in the right direction.

Forget-me-nots come back twice a year OP and are very hardy. Really pretty too.

I have some snowdrops and daffodils near family graves. After that the grass is mown so few plants planted in the ground survive.

Rosemary might be nice. Can survive dry conditions. Also pelargoniums which you see in pots in France.

A lovely miniature rose bush in your mum's favourite colour would be lovely.

Sorry for your loss.

Are you allowed plants?

Our graveyard only allows flowers in those vase things that stick into the ground. No keepsakes or nicknacks.

They went round at one point and collected them up and stored them.

You could take yours home but not put out on the grave it had been on. It caused a stromash.

The alternative was to buy one of their rose bushes.

Hello, WingingItThroughLifeOneDayAtATime,

Have you thought of planting some bulbs. There are bulbs for every season of the year starting with snowdrops. Most bulbs are low maintenance cheery and most will take care of themselves. If you consider bulbs go for some that are short in height.
