Has anyone got a resin bound patio?

We have a garden in need of landscaping but we don't have a huge budget. One of the most immediate areas is the patio outside our kitchen. It's not quite big enough for a dining table if you want to open the doors. We were looking at laying a larger patio ourselves but after the winter we've just had, I started thinking about a resin bound patio which is permeable and would help with the rainfall. My DH isn't convinced and it will be a professional job so he REALLY needs to be convinced because it will cost a lot more. Has anyone done this? Could you share photos or experiences? It would be an investment so even reassurance that it will last and look good is useful.

Gravel would be a lot cheaper, and more permeable. And you can easily DIY.

You could call it a gravilio?

if you look on youtube Bunny Guinness has some videos covering this - this is one of them which covers different types of bound gravel:

Hi, not sure if you're still looking for advice on the resin patio. I have one, approximatley 30ft by 15ft and it cost about £2500 in 2021 (cash). I love mine. It;s easy to keep clean, no weeds and is totally permeable. The patio was done over a few days as there was already a base down beforehand. The colour does fade a little over the years but still looks great. It's nice to walk on in bare feet too !! Hope this helps.

No idea about patios..but I first read your thread title as 'does anyone have a resin coated POTATO' Grin

Thanks all! Gravel is a no-go because of cats.
@MirandaWallis glad to hear you like yours and to get an idea of cost. I can find lots about driveways but patios don't seem very common yet. I remember seeing it on one of the garden makeover programs once but it was only the once.

Yes, we had the all of the outside paving in our garden done - driveway, paths and patio, all of which were different kinds of brickwork and paving which we'd inherited from the previous owner. It's permeable, doesn't get slippery or icy either and no weeds and moss.

We had resin laid over a previous crazy paving patio about a month ago. It is very uneven and now has weeds growing in places. It is also uncomfortable to walk on in bare feet as it is quite sharp. Does this sound as though it has not been installed properly and do we have any recall to the installer?

Was any leveler out down first or so you mean straight on top of crazy paving? I wouldn't have thought that was right.

I don't think he put any levelling down on top of the paving as that was completely flat.

I had mine done last year, I’m very happy with how it turned out. It’s expensive, but worth the investment as it should last years.

I’ve got a resin bound drive which extends back into my back garden meeting my patio slabs (very modern in design). This is to accommodate another parking space should we need it via double gates but also doubles as patio area. In truth if I had my time again I would only have the resin bound surface. It’s absolutely brilliant, beautiful there are so many colours to choose from. The surface is way, way less slippy underfoot than our top notch porcelain patio slabs and stays effortlessly clean unlike the porcelain which requires occasional jet washing. It’s water permeability is so, so much better than our previous gravel drive and that always left us bringing gravel and mud into the house. As if it couldn’t be anymore perfect it’s so comfortable even on bare feet. Go for it, I’m pretty sure you’ll be glad you did. ☺️
