I’ve picked up a box of pink / white mixed bulbs in B &Q and now I’m not sure how they would work out best / be best planted (They will probably bug me when they have died and I have to leave them a while.)
I have pots I could use , I have a border with mature rhododendron’s in it or they could go in a border with roses. I’ve not had my garden long so not sure.
do I mix them all up ? Plant them in clumps of the same type ?
i have :
35 Gladiolus
23 iris
10 freesia
5 ranunculus
5 anemone
2 dahlias
ideas needed 🙂

I wouldn't mix them all up, they are very different sizes and won't necessarily do well together.

Wait until after the last frost to plant the gladioli and dahlias, and give them full sun.

The others I would plant as soon as possible. I usually soak anemones and ranunculus overnight before planting them.

Not sure about freesias, I've never grown them.

Thanks. What is the soaking for ?

I bought a similar mix when I was brand new to gardening and didn't know what I was doing. I planted them in mid-March.

Anemones- I soaked them for a couple of hours, must have read about it somewhere. I put them in a flower bed and they grew fine but didn't come back the next year.

Gladioli- I put them in the back of a flower bed with no preparation and they grew well. They're not supposed to be hardy but mine came back the following year.

Dahlias- I grew them indoors in pots then planted them out in May when they were about 30cm tall. They were quickly eaten by slugs. I'm trying again this year and have recently potted them up and watered them. They're in the corner of the dining room waiting for leaves to emerge. I won't water them again until they've started sprouting. I'm going to make sure they're very bushy before I plant them out this time.

Freesia- turns out they like to be warm. I planted them with no preparation in March and only got 2 flowers but they smelled wonderful. If I grew them again I'd wait until it was much warmer and put them somewhere sunny and free draining.

I haven't tried iris or ranunculus. Instagram suggests ranunculus like to be soaked and can be quite temperamental so don't be disheartened if they don't flower.

Can you show us a picture of the pack.I would put the gladioli and iris together interspersed with each other straight into the garden. The ranacula and anenome I would put in 2 separate pots. I like to stand my pots on the garden later in the year.

The dahlia can go any where. Freesia are notoriously difficult. I would start them indoors.
