Do you mean a cherry tree grown predominantly for its blossom, or for its fruit?
If the former, I'd recommend a flowering cherry - they are stunning in the spring, attractive in the summer, and the leaves are often fiery orange in the autumn (depending on variety). Some kinds have interesting bark, too.
If it's the fruit you want, I'd suggest a plum tree, as the birds will get the cherries long before you do (unless you net it, which isn't very attractive in a border).
