Heavy duty lawnmower - but easy to start?

I have a Makita petrol mower which is a good mower when it goes but an absolute nightmare to start up. I’m not strong enough in the shoulders to pull the recoil fast enough and inevitably it ends up flooding. It’s been like this pretty much from new and is now about 4 years old

Is there a petrol power that is easy to start, preferably with a button? I need a fairly heavy duty one as it’s a massive area of grass. It’s really annoying me as I work full time and only have a small window of opportunity for gardening - which is usually spent waiting for the engine to unflood itself

Any recommendations please?

Yes, you can get electric start petrol lawnmowers.
We bought my Ddad a Wolf model for a birthday present a few years ago. Large cutting blade, self propelled, electric start 4stroke engine, revolutionised him cutting his (large) lawn.

Get a battery one.
We have an Ego now. Battery. Just turns on at a switch and go.
Had a cheaper smaller battery one for 6 years previously. But needed something larger.

They come in 3 sizes

How long does the battery last and does it come with a second so you have a (fully charged) backup?

Ddad would be mowing for about 2hrs hence why he needed a decent sized petrol one (think it was 21inch), nothing else would come close and the OP says their grass area is "massive".
Just had the quickest of looks and Hyundai do something that (to me) looks to be comparable to my Ddad's.

TBH my Ddad should have had a ride-on mower but I think he liked the walking up & down and considered it part of his exercise routine.

if its a large garden like ours, I would go with a larger petrol mower with electric start

those battery ones weigh a ton but I'm not touched one recently so things may have changed

@Cotswoldbee - depends on how big a battery you get, and size lawnmower. The larger 52cm comes with 56v 7.5ah battery.

As a comparison we have the 42cm with 56v 5ah battery. It does our garden fine. Our garden is about 1000m2 but lots of slopes so not all mown with mower. You can get bigger or a second battery if you wanted, it would just cost.

Oh thank you - it’s really helpful to hear all your views Flowers

It’s just under one acre of flat lawn - quite damp so grows very quickly and benefits from having stripes in parts of it so better with an ordinary mower than a small ride-on. Then another half acre that I just mow paths into so that bit doesn’t total much.

I’ll do some comparisons now I can see what the options are. Like your dad @Cotswoldbee I enjoy doing it (when I have the right kit) and like the walking up and down and the finished result!
