Hi,

Just looking for other people's inspiration regarding what to plant in an old butler sink. In will sit in a small sheltered north facing garden.

Thanks!

Things that will droop over the sides - corydalis lutea, aubretia, alyssum.
Then a small low growing shrub in the middle, can't think of the names of the ones I'm thinking of so I'll come back after a Google.

Helianthemum is what I was trying to remember, but also potentilla, maybe try rosemary, patio roses. You could also pop in some bulbs, some dwarf narcissus would be nice.

We have one, just be aware that they are incredibly heavy and because of the shape, impossible to get a grip on to try to pick it up/move it. The sink hole/plug hole bit means it wobbles so we have a brick under it at the other end

Lovely as a planter though, nice size

@heldinadream putting the bulbs in is a good idea, thank you.

Traditionally, old sinks were often coated with hyper tufa (a mix of cement and peat, bonded with epoxy resin), and planted with tiny choice alpines. I have an old ceramic shower tray treated this way, which has had various plantings over the years. My pic shows it planted with some surplus succulents about 6 years ago, but these aren’t winter hardy, so needs replanting every year. It’s currently empty, so I’ll replant it again as soon as the danger of frost has gone.
