Prune Sad Marguerites or Dump?

Marguerites in containers were still flowering in December so I left them. They're now understandably looking sad. Do I prune them and hope they flower again? To complicate it I've got two varieties in. I think Leucanthemum and Argyranthemum, which differ in their hardiness.

I'm a great believer in allowing a long period of grace before declaring things dead. I have two evergreens that I got off a friend (she had uprooted them and put them in the bin). One survived the winter very well; the other died. Except that, the other day, I noticed green shoots...Smile

Prune and protect.

Another prune, lots of life in them.

Thank you. How far would I prune?

Very interesting. I too planted a yellow Marguerite last year which was looking lovely in autumn - getting bigger and lots of flowers. Then in December we got some snow for a day or two and the thing promptly died. I was hoping it would recover but no signs yet. I might leave it longer then in the hope it comes back.

Definately need to prune it as the above soil plant looks dead, but like you say they can surprise you and sometimes come back. I was mad with myself for not thinking to take a cutting off it and bring it indoors. Lesson learned.

We should update this thread again later in the year to see if the OP marguerite recovers as well as mine. (Hurry up spring!)

I will indeed update the poor things' fate, @MrBenschangingroom.

They completely died, @MrBenschangingroom. No new growth, just dried out to sticks. How is yours?
